SWANA stands for Southwest Asian and North African, it typically refers to the region from Morocco to Afghanistan (west to east) including but not limited to: Kurds, Nubians, Sudanese, Armenians, Circassians, Arabs, Iranians, Druze, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Turks, Yazidis, Azeris, Turkmen, Afghans, Copts, Imazighen, and other identities and their intersections.
SWANA is a decolonial word for the South West Asian/ North African region in place of Middle Eastern, Near Eastern, Arab World or Islamic World terms that have colonial, Eurocentric, and Orientalist origins
While we welcome people of all faith and belief systems to join our movement; however, we are not affiliated with any religion or faith-based institution.
While we hope to partner with governments to scale our effort; we are not affiliated with any government, governmental institution or any political group or party.
We require all participants of our events and activities to refrain from any potentially controversial topics or debates, that includes discussing politics, religion or hot topics on the news. We can discuss how these topics are impacting us as individuals, but these debates are strictly prohibited in our online and off-line activities and groups.
We follow a wholistic approach to share knowledge and skills to help our members excel and be awesome; however, we are not a training center.
We are currently working on identifying activities and services to support our members and their families where needed.
